Chicken Trampler Ultralight Camera Holster Review!
Someone somewhere once said that you should learn to dance in the rain. That person clearly has never tried to keep their camera dry while wading through a river, or hiking through a rainstorm. That’s were this Bad Boy comes in. When doing a product review, you generally want to see how the product holds up for everyday use, how comfortable it is, and how it fits into your current setup. So naturally, the very first thing I did was to put my entire setup straight into the Little Missouri River.
Now you might be asking yourself questions such as:
“Can his camera swim?”
“Why would he do that?”
“Do cameras and water mix well?”
Answers:
My camera definitely cannot swim.
Walking across a river is hard.
They do not.
One wrong step and I ended up waist high in water, camera bag submerged, and socks now doubling as water bottles. First thought: There goes $2500 worth of gear. Second thought: I should probably get out of this water. Luckily for me, this camera bag worked like magic. Zero water anywhere inside, everything from my microfiber cloth to the lens was perfectly dry. While this wasn’t an ideal situation by any means, this camera bag saved me having to replace my entire camera body, lens and dual SD cards. The feeling of relief knowing that your gear is protected is worth the purchase alone.
Now, on to the regularly scheduled review process.
The Chicken Trampler Case is made to be as light as possible with the ultralight backpacker in mind. This obviously will has some pros and cons. The low weight makes the case alone feel almost non-existent when you have your camera out. You wont notice it on your hip and it wont add much in additional weight to your pack setup. On the flip side, the extreme light weight means that there isn’t a lot of padding on the side or bottom of the case. You’ll need to be careful dropping down your pack, or going through some tight spacing.
Every case is also custom made to the size of your camera setup. For example, if you are running a 50mm lens instead of the 18-300mm I use, your camera case would be made to fit a max size of your camera body plus 50mm lens length. This gives it a good fit that minimizes the bounce inside the bag and gives the it a real sturdy feeling.
Last but definitely the most important, it looks awesome. Through Chicken Trampler you can personalize the body patches to any color available. The Model I used was complete slate grey to match my pack, but you feel free to mix and match your heart away.
The Specs:
Waterproof X-pac main body material.
